city hall I
The last major fire in 1765 also destroyed the city hall on the market square. The current city hall was built in 1780 as a single-storey session house for the magistrate's meeting. It was intended to serve as a temporary solution until a new city hall was built on the market square. Unfortunately, there was no money for a new building and so the building at Pferdemarkt 2 was given its current form in 1865 and became the city hall for good. In addition to the city council, it also houses the Schwaan office, which includes not only the city itself but also a number of municipalities in the surrounding area.
