The power of fate, human passion, a sense of honor, love and the omnipresence of death are central themes of the most important Spanish poet of the 20th century, García Lorca's (1898-1936) literary work. A multi-talented artist, he also worked as a painter, composer and pianist. He had friendships with great composers of his time and personalities such as Manuel de Falla, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. His life, his fascinating work and his tragic death in the turmoil of the Spanish Civil War are atmospherically reflected in his own texts, poems and compositions for violin and piano as well as those of his composer friends Francis Poulenc, Enrique Granados and Manuel de Falla.

García Lorca - whose full name was Federico del Sagrado Corazón de Jesús García Lorca - was born on June 5, 1898 in Fuente Vaqueros in the Spanish province of Granada and was murdered not far from there, one month after the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War on August 19, 1936 in Víznar near Granada
