"Death in Venice" by Thomas Mann

Friedrich von Thun, recitation

Maria Reiter, accordion

Longing and desire, beauty and death. Where else but in old Venice can you fall in love and be consumed like the writer Gustav Aschenbach in Thomas Mann's famous novella. Thomas Mann tells of the "irruption of passion", of the writer's forbidden love for the beautiful boy Tadzio. At the same time, however, he also tells of the outbreak of a pandemic, cholera, from which Aschenbach eventually dies. From Luchino Visconti's film adaptation to John Neumeier's ballet, the novella has inspired very different artists. Friedrich von Thun, the famous mime artist, now lends his voice to this novella, which is part of world literature. The reading will be accompanied by Maria Reiter and her accordion.
