Part 2 looks at the culture of mourning in the 19th century from various perspectives. Why did people have to keep watch over the dead until the funeral? Why were body holders needed and what does hair have to do with mourning? Why were burial objects placed in the coffin of the deceased, what was their purpose and why could they be useful?
