THE MUSHROOM
German by Horst Willems
Director: Sebastian Wirnitzer
Set design: Gretl Kautzsch
Mollie Ralston has inherited the old Monkswell Manor and is opening a boarding house with her husband Giles. The preparations for the opening have just been completed when they hear on the radio about a murder that has taken place in London. The perpetrator is on the run. But London is far away and there are important things to do, as the first guests arrive and want to be looked after.
But then events come thick and fast: a snowstorm cuts the guesthouse off from the outside world and the telephone stops working. Suddenly there is also a dead body in the guesthouse. The guesthouse becomes a mousetrap. Everyone is a suspect. Who is the murderer and who will be the next victim?
Agatha Christie's stage thriller has now been running daily in London's West End for 73 years, making it the longest-running play in the world. The Harztheater presents this crime classic in a black and white aesthetic reminiscent of the silent film era.
