KINO: FAME - The road to fame
The annual entrance exams take place at the New York School of Performing Arts. Eight young people are accepted to the renowned school, including the self-confident singer Coco, the sensitive actor Montgomery, the shy Doris and the aggressive dancer Leroy. They come from the lower classes and, like their rich classmates, dream that their artistic training will pave their "path to fame" over the next four years. But the entrance exam was only the first hurdle on a long, rocky road to the stage and the young people soon realize that talent alone is not enough: Talent alone is not enough.
"Fame" was nominated for six Oscars, of which the film won two: the Oscar for Best Music and Best Song.
Due to its great success, a television series was produced. The timeless subject matter about young people who have to find their own way led to a remake in 2009. We are showing the original from 1980 at the Ernst Barlach Theater.
